Is Reduction Of Calcium Intake Advisable In An Elderly Person?

I take 2 calcium + D3 supplements a day. I also drink 6 8 oz. glasses of skim milk a day. I exercise (jog and weight lift) 5 days a week. I am 70 years old and Just had my first Wellness check up. All my blood labs came back really good. My dr. suggested I might have to reduce my calcium intake. What do you suggest? Thanks for help with this.

Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
I agree with your doctor. There is no evidence that a high dose of calcium will prevent fractures in our elderly or older adults. Not just that, but too much calcium can clog the arteries just like cholesterol does and promote atherosclerosis.

You are getting enough calcium from the dairy you consume and do not need supplementation. I cannot comment on taking D without knowing your labs for D, but suspect if you are drinking vitamin D fortified milk you don't need that supplement
either.
