Is Risk Of STD High After Unprotected Intercourse?
Dear doc.,
I had have unprotected sex yesterday in the hot tub. when i search it i found that that it is not good to do it because we might get STDs or HIV. I directly go to the doctor by tomorrow afternoon and she clean up my vagina and give suppositories to release the water. Do I am safe now? or I got STDs from it. Im so worried because I am a nursing mom. How about my husband do get an STDs also.
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Cleaning of vagina and vaginal suppositories are not 100% safe from HIV/STD. STDs are more than 25 in number. Some are caused by virus, others caused by either bacteria or fungus, parasites. Suppositories and other precautionary measures would take care for bacterial, fungal and even parasitic pathogens whereas it would not have any effect on viral STDs. So have tests for HIV,Hepatitis, HSV after appropriate window period and ascertain that you are free from viral STDs. A careful examination of vagina by a physician after 2-4 months would rule out HPV infection also. Till then it is better to have protected sex with your husband. Dr S.Murugan
