Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sir, the consulting doctor has advised me AKT-3 about 6 months back. I am taking it regularly around 5 AM daily. But this has somehow resulted to severe cough particularly during night. Is it its side effect? But firstly pl advice me how much time it will take more to get fully recovered.
Tuberculosis treatment should be taken for at least six months. First 2 months consists of intensive phase treatment after which you will be non infective. Remaining 4 months consists of killing all the bacteria and preventing relapse in future. Cough and other allergic reactions can occur due to the multiple drugs. Antihistamine can be taken to reduce these symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
