Is Severe Cramping One Of The Side Effects Of Lisinopril?
Hi, I started taking lisinopril recently and since then I have been having severe cramping in my hands, feet ,legs and feet. The cramps are on my inner thighs, between my trib and fibula. My hands cramp so severely that my thumbs are drawn down to my palm. My feet also cramp. I take k+ daily for hypokalemic periodic paralysis. I have added slow mag, multi vitamins, and calcium. I drink lots of water and have increased my salt intake. Also take vesicare, cymbalta, oxycodone. This is very painful. What can I do?
It really should not be. ACE inhibitirs such as lisinopril should increase the potassium level slightly. BUT if it is combination lisinopril with a diuretic this is going to be dangerous.
If one was switched TO lisinopril from another ACE inhibitor--literally ALL OTHER ACE INHIBITORS ARE BETTER THAN LISINOPRIL. these could be problems.
Otherwise, you'd only expect potassium to go UP and never DOWN with lisinopril.
Obviously one of the main side effects of hypokalemia is cramping and cramping is a reason to get immediate blood work to make sure the potassium level isn't low enough to be fatal.
Without an exam, I can only give general information and this may not apply to your particular situation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
