Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've been a medical marijuana patient for a couple years and I was recently prescribed 25 mg of metoprolol a day for high blood pressure due to thyroid issues. I have not smoked since I was perscribed this medication a week ago. Am I safe to take a few hits?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice
Ok, thyroid does not generally cause hypertension. There can be an unregulated high amount of thyroid hormone and this can cause sky high pulse rate and Metoprolol is usually started for this prior to teething the thyroid. Cannabis also increases the pulse rate and Metoprolol would lower that. so, there is an interaction between cannabis and thyroid. not cannabis and Metoprolol.
