The 10- year cardiac risk calculator asks about smoking. It says check yes if you have smoked any cigarettes in the past month . I have not smoked cigarettes in more than 10 years, but I indulge in a Hemingway Short Story (Arturo Fuente) or a Parthagas cigar every once in a while - avg 20-40 cigars a year, or a little less than once a week. I can not find any information anywhere that has assessed cigar/pipe smoking and heart disease. What is your take on it? Moderation - yes/no?
Although there is limited data on this. But studies suggest even smoking one cigarette causes damage to blood vessel lining .So moderation can not prevent cardiac risk. Also people are likely to increase there consumption later in life and chances are to become heavy smoker from smoking in moderation.
