Hi,I am Dr. Shivaprasad C (Endocrinologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother was recently diagnosed with sneddons syndrome. He had a serious stroke at 42 previous to that suffered high blood pressure for years. History of heart disease on my fathers side. I am healthy active should I be tested and if so how intense in the testing
Thank you for following up. Sheddon's syndrome is not studied till the end. The disease predominantly affects women in young adulthood. While about 50% of cases are idiopathic, SS can be associated with autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, antiphospholipid syndrome, Behçet disease, and mixed connective tissue disease. I suggest you to consult at the genetic doctor to rule out this disease, because your brother has it.The mean age of onset of neurological symptoms is 39 years. You pay attention to the livedo,it is generally observed up to 10 years earlier and sometimes since childhood. Livedo racemosa is a persistent net-like violaceous-cyanotic, mottled discoloration of the skin affecting primarily the legs and arms, but also involving the buttocks and the trunk, and that is exacerbated by cold or pregnancy. Livedo reticularis, that is limited to the extremities and is visible only in the cold. If you had livedo then you would have more chances of this syndrome.
