Is Sotos Syndrome Possible In An Infant?

My son has been large since in utero. He is now 20 months, 35.5 inches long, 38.5 pounds and has a 20 head. I went to a new pediatrician yesterday to try to get speech therapy for him as he only says 2 words and just two weeks ago had ear tubes and can just now pass a hearing test. The new pediatrician is concerned about his size and referred me to a geneticist. The only thing I can figure out she is concerned about is Sotos Syndrome. He doesn t have any of the physical characteristics but I m still scared-he has low tone and was late to crawl and walk and has a speech delay. My family is full (on both sides) of men from 6 2 to 6 8. Should I be worried?

Hi,

From the details you have given, there are certain features which worry us and makes us think of possible Sotos syndrome.

Usually children with Sotos syndrome have specific features like long narrow face, pointed chin and large head. They can also have development delay , learning disability, low tone and other organ involvement.
