Is Spinal Tap Required For Dizziness And Nausea?

my ex-boyfriend of 58 yrs old had a stroke 2 yrs ago. with the exception of his left side showing some numbness, he walks with a limp he seems to be fairly healthy and goes to work every day helping his son.(he's a retired mechanic/owner of a service station which is now run by his son).

just recently a few days ago. his only symptoms were lightheaded and nausea. no high blood pressure or anything else.

my question is: would the hospital have given him a spinal tap if that were his only symptoms? seems a bit extreme to me to have a spinal tap performed. i am thinking this might be something he made up.

this is the second time he has been rushed to the hospital thinking he was having another stroke.

he also exhibits vague symptoms and complaints such as sore skin on his left side and waves of feeling like he's freezing and cannot get warm. in addition he misses lots of work with vague symptoms of "just not feeling good". the doctors dont seem to find anything wrong with him. i'm sure he has been diagnosed with some sort of depression and he seems very irritable and very dramatic at times. i'm not trying to down play his symptoms or seem unsympathetic, but i wonder if some of this is for attention. he is "sick" in bed at least every 2 weeks for the time that i have known him.
