Is Surgery Essential For Infected Fluids In Large Intestine?

hi i want to know if there is infection of a severe nature in the large intestine is surgery req,my doc says there is infected fluid in my large intestine and they need to operate in order to drain the fluid,but how will they ensure the fluid from not developing again,as i am not responding to any medicine they are giving me to ease the pain
