Is Surgery Last Option For Cataract Patient ?

Dear Dr Kumar
My father is 63 years old(weight around 90 Kg) wearing glass whose power is 13-14 dioptre.Now he is facing some problem in his eye and as per the local opthalmologist he has Cataract (MOTIABIND) problem.He is Non Diabetic.Is CATARACT SURGERY the last Option for him ? As per his medical history,he has Filarial problem in his Leg.
Please suggest some preventive measures for the same.

Hello
It seems from the history that your father is having cataract and he is also wearing glasses of 13-14 dioptre.
For cataract the only curative treatment option is surgery which consists of extraction of cataractous lens and impalntation of intra ocular lens.
Since he is also having high refractive error this will remove the need to wear spectacles of high refractive power.
Hence I advice that he can undergo cataract surgery at the earliest.
