Is Swelling In Knee Caused Due To Cortisone Injection?
Hi Dr. Siegel, I am a 70 year old woman who had an injury to my right leg over 50 years ago. It caused a Bursa on the bone below my knee. 2 Years ago I had a bad fall and ever since, the bursa has been sore and I have a large swelling below the knee. it has been difficult to walk at times. My Doctor sent me for an x-ray which shows I have Osteo arthritis. I also had an ultrasound which indicates a lot of swelling around the bursa. Last week I was given a cortisone injection into the patella behind knee cap as they thought that was causing the swelling below the knee. They did not find fluid in that location and the swelling has not been reduced at all. I feel I should be seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon but not sure what to do now.
I have studied your case, and i can assure you that there is nothing to be worried about. Cortisone injection causes knee swelling some time . I hope soon your pain and swelling will decreased . You can also apply bandage to the knee. you can take analgesic for the time being. Avoid stairs, sitting on floor or cross leg sitting.
