Is Swollen Labia Minora A Sign Of STD?

My labia minora is very swollen on the left side (about 2-3x as the other side). It s not painful, but it s very uncomfortable and almost has a tingling sensation. It showed up about three weeks ago after having sex and I thought it was just from having rough sex and would go down as it has before. Two weeks later it was still the same. Me and my boyfriend havnt had sex in a week and it still hasn t improved. I saw my doctor yesterday and she didn t know what it was. She said it isn t a bacterial or yeast infection due to there is no abnormal discharge or pain. I have had some unprotected sex and am worried it could be a sign of an STD. I don t use any soaps or products to clean just water.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Swollen labia could indicate the beginning of a genital infection, common yeast or fungal infection. Is there any associated redness, foul discharge or urinary or bowel symptoms? Also, it could happen due to vigorous sex, masturbation, shaving etc in which case it is normal and would go away with ice packs.

Please write in with more details. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
