Is Taking Julie Emergency Contraceptive Twice In Between Sessions Of Intercourse Effective?

If you had unprotected sex 2 hours before taking a first dose of emergency contraceptive (Julie, LEVONORGESTREL 1.5mg) then had unprotected sex two more times after (starting 3-4 hours after first dose and 6-7 hours in between) then immediately took a second, same dose of emergency contraceptive after the 3rd time, is it still effective? (All without any direct/intentional semen emission inside)

Hi,

Any emergency contraceptive is effective to prevent pregnancy, when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. When you have taken emergency contraceptive, it will cover all the unprotected sex you underwent within 72 hours of taking the pill. Repeating the emergency contraceptive number of times in a small span of time is hazardous for menstrual health. Please try to avoid it in future. Emergency contraception is meant to be taken only once in a while in emergency only.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
