Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Taking Prednisone Advisable While On Diltiazem?
My doctor prescribed prednisone tablets for me to take, beginning tomorrow, to help with my back pain. (2) 10 mg for 5 days. Then (1) 10 mg for 5 days. I currently take (1) 240 mg diltiazem hcl re capsule daily for tachycardia and on-going a-fib. Will there be any bad drug interaction? What about with lisinopril? Melatonin? Tylenol? Thank you.
If taken together, Prednisone may reduce the blood pressure lowering effects of Dilitiazem and Lisinopril. The interaction is most likely to occur when Prednisone is used for more than a week, since prolonged use can cause sodium and water retention resulting in unexplained weight gain or swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet.
You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications.
No other harmful interactions were found between other prescribed drugs.
Hope to have answered your query. A feed back is appreciated.
