Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad has been taking lisinopril for 4 years and has been losing his voice little by little during this time. I just now figured that the 2 could be related. If they are related, will his voice recover after he has stopped the medication for a period of time?
Hi. Welcome to HCM. Lisinopril belongs to ACE inhibitors group of anti hypertensives. Its most common side effects are Blurred vision, cloudy urine, confusion, decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability, dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position, sweating, unusual tiredness or weakness. Whereas cough, diarrhea, LOSS OF VOICE, sore throat are some of the less common side effects. Loss of voice is reversible when the drug is stopped. I suggest u to inform your treating doctor about this loss of voice and he may change the drug. Remember loss of voice may not be related to this drug intake. I strongly recommend u to consult your doctor regarding this. ALl the best
