Is Taking Mucolyte Syrup Safe For Cough?

hi good day to all the doctors out there,i just want to ask my son is 3yrs old,and he has a cough with phlegm and whezzing chest.He took mucolyte syrup,5ml 8hourly for 5dys and nubalin 5ml 8hourly for 5dys.Is this good for him?And this time he has cough with phlegm still,yet the doses already over.And my son does'nt know how to spit out.He can't understand my instruction at this time.What should i do,

Kids tend to swallow the sputum rather than spit it out.. with time they will learn to do it.. mucolytics that are being given is a symptomatic treatment for the cough.. the cause of cough however needs to be ascertained because it has not come down even now after expectorant. . suggested further evaluation..
