Is The Risperidone Dosage Increase Dangerous In Alzheimer's Disease And BP?

My husband is 82 years old has Alzeheimers disease. He take Namenda, 10 mg, 2x a day; Aricept, 10mg, once daily. This along with blood pressure medicine and a baby aspirin. His phychiatrist recently put him on Risperidone, .025 mg, once daily and then changed it to 2x a day. Is this dangerous for him. Will it help?

Well it's not a big dose if that's what you are wondering, it's a small one.
I am not going to lie to you, all anti-psychotics like Risperidone do carry their risks, they actually carry a warning for an increased risk of death due to cardiovascular complications or infections, but in everyday practice often patients become psychotic, are agitated or aggressive and it becomes very hard not only for doctors but especially family members to manage and cope with them, so anti-psychotics do become a necessary evil to control their behavior and are widely used, by me as well.

Neurologist Dr. Eris Ranxha's  Response
Dear
donepezil (aricept) is the best treatment for treating dementia and Alzheimer
Unfortunately they just slow down the proces
Risperdone is used to cure such symptoms like psychosis or hallucinations
The dosage that your psychiatrist reccomended you is fine and in my opinion your husband will suffer no side effect
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
