I was in a car accident 2 days go. It was pretty violent and the car was flipped. I wasn t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Nothing extremely serious was wrong. But there s a pretty large amount of blood in my stools, is it something that can be serious?

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I understand your concerns and will explain what needs to be done.

First: i want to say that i am happy that you didn't get hurt badly from the accident.
Second: blood in your stools is never a normal thing. Always need to be checked to find its cause.
Probably it is due to the accident, but it might be just a coincidence.
I suggest you check up with a trauma doctor to evaluate, diagnose, stabilize and manage anything that is wrong due to the accident. If you have already checked with this doctor after the accident, than you need to check up with a gastroenterologyst to determine the reason of the presence of blood in your stools.

You might need to do a colonoscopy to find the cause of the bleeding. You need to do those consults,it might be serious if you wait just 1 more day.

If you have any other question, feel free to contact me.
