Is The Bump Behind My Head Causing Headaches?

My boyfriend has a pebble sized bump directly on the back of his head. I believe he has noticed it for two months. He also says it hurts when I push on it. The bump feels as if it s under the skin. Could it be a reason for his headaches? What might it be?

A swelling in the back of the head may or may not lead to headaches. Most commonly a swelling can be due to a local injury which swells and as the blood calcifies, the blood can persist.

Other causes of swelling include hemangioma which is a blood filled swelling. This can be connected to the blood supply in the body. In this, it is possible for there to be headaches if toxins are also released.

Another reason for a bump can be a cyst or an infected cyst. These can cause localised irritation and pain over the scalp which may progress to a headache. A cyst can be confirmed by examining the swelling over the scalp. In case the cyst is infected, it can be removed and this may help with headaches.
