Is The Completion Of A Full Course Of Flu Vaccination Necessary?

My son is 2yrs old I was sceptic about giving him the flu vaccine for a long time then this whole flu situation happened where kids have died from the flu so I decided to give him the flu shot. He has only been given the first dose and is scheduled for the next one in a month but I m regretting it.. if I don t take him to get the second dose will there be any complications or risks I should be concerned about?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please take him to get the second shot of the influenza vaccine. So that he can have the benefit of the whole dose. Two shots of the flu vaccine are needed the first time so that the child's immune system will make a high enough amount of antibody to protect him against the flu virus. The vaccine must be given yearly to all persons older than 6 months so that they continue to be protected. The vaccine is given in the beginning of autumn before the flu season starts in the USA.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
