Hi,
Atorvastatin acts by lowering blood cholesterol , keeping the plaques steady & avoiding inflammation. Thus it is known to prevent stroke. It does not have any role in dissolving blockages.
The dose depends on patients lipid profile, body weight, physical activities he undertakes. Your doctor might have raised the dose for one of these causes.
Thanks.
