Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had my picc line taken out a couple of days ago and there is a little bump at the site where it was removed. Is that normal. I was told in the hospital after having a scope down my throat to see if I had a heart infection that I had a tiny hole in my heart probably from birth that 25% of the populations has and the only problem is that you would not want to get a blood clot. So I was wondering if this is a blood clot and if I should go to the emergency room or if this is normal. It is not painful. After the nurse pulled the picc line out though the next day there was a little pokey scab poking up from the skin and when I twisted and pulled it as I thought it was dried blood a string of some sort came out. I had her come back and she said it was just a blood clot. So I don t know what this little tiny bump is now and I am scared.

hi that small bump what you have mentioned is quite normal after the removal of the catheter. trans-esophageal echocardiography(TEE) , what you have undergone indicates that you might have had a simple septal defect. this small peripheral blood clot at the removed catheter (picc) site has nothing to do with the mentioned internal clot formation. it is normal physiological process of scab formation, which sheds off otherwise, even if not pulled out. all the best take care
