Is The Nervous System Of Foetus Connected To The Mother?
I'm 30 years old and 24 weeks pregnant. Today I was shocked by my dog's electrical fence collars. I felt fine when it happened but by the evening, my forearm extensors and my thumb feel funny. Kind of feels like it's slightly burnt. Will this affect my baby? I know an electrical current can run through the body through nerves. Is my baby's nervous system connected to mine?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. No the nervous system of the mother and fetus is not connected. However, whenever one gets an electric shock during pregnancy, it can have a effect on the foetus. But the effect is very minimal or is not there, if the shock is of very low intensity as in your case. I would suggest you to get a ultrasound done to confirm the fetal well being and rule out any placental abruption. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
