General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Progyluton is a form of HRT- containing estrogen valerate & Norgestrel. It is prescribed to supplement estrogen deficiency due to various causes( irregular/absent menses, removal of ovary )- It is not a contraceptive because, it does not prevent ovulation -So pregnancy is possible while on Progyluton. Though the estradiole incorporated does not show contraception/ fetal malformations/excess virility in female fetus ,it is advised to stop the pill immediately after conception & pregnancy is contraindication for starting the pill. -In case you have continued the pills in spite of pregnancy, you should think about examination/investigations by gynecologist to guide for termination/ continuation of pregnancy. Thanks.
