The potassium test may determine possible electrolyte imbalance, especially in people with kidney disease or undergoing diuretic therapy
Normal Ranges for Potasssium 3.5 - 5.5 mEq/L
When to get tested?========================================
As part of a routine medical exam, when you have symptoms such as weakness and/or cardiac arrhythmia, or when an electrolyte imbalance is suspected; at regular intervals when you are taking a medication and/or have a disease or condition, such as high blood pressure or kidney disease, that can affect your potassium level
From experience too little Potassium caused me bleeding. I once took hydroxycut and my potassium and magnesium dropped bad. I had heart irregularities per the Electrokardiograms taken. I also started to bleed from everywhere. The doctors put me on potassium & magnesium supplements
If potassium levels go too low or too high, your health may be in considerable danger: you are at risk for developing shock, respiratory failure, or heart rhythm disturbances. An abnormal concentration can alter the function of neuromuscular tissue; for example, the heart muscle may lose its ability to contract.
