Is There An Alternative For Synthroid That Does Not Cause Weight Gain And Hair Loss?

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH HYPOTHYROIDISM. MY MD WANTS TO PUT ME ON 50 MCG OF SYNTHROID AGAIN. I TOOK SYNTHROID YRS. AGO AND WENT OFF OF IT DUE TO THE SIDE EFFECTS. IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE THAT DOES NOT CAUSE WT. GAIN, HAIR LOSS, ETC. THAT I CAN TAKE?

The side effects you have mentioned are due to hypothyroidism and not due to synthroid. Synthroid causes exact opposite that is weight loss. You need to see if the dose of synthroid was enough to render you euthyroid (normal thyroid function tests). I strongly recommend synthroid with monitoring of serum TSH and free T4 levels and dose adjustment of drug accordingly.
