Is There Any Alternative Drug To Montek LC Which Doesn’t Cause Excessive Drowsiness?
Hi.. I was advised to take Montek LC tablet everyday for 30 days for allergies. However, as it induced a lot of drowsiness which could not be overcome even by 8 hours of sleep( I usually sleep for 6 hours) and it continued throughout the day. This is affecting my studies. Is there any alternatie drug which could induce less sleepiness?

Combination of Montelukast with Levocetirizine is a common combination used for treating the allergic condition. Though the effect of Levocetirizine, starts almost immediately and the effect remains for a long time. However it has more sedating effect as compared to some other antihistamines.
Therefore, some other antihistamines like Fexofenadine or Desloratadine may be used and these may replace Levocetirizine. Though, there is no conclusive study till date, still it is generally thought that these products are less sedative as compared to Levocetirizine and hence cause less drowsiness as compared to Levocetirizine. Therefore you can safely use a combination of Montelukast and Fexofenadine / Desloratadine.
