Is There Any Chance Of Pregnancy Inspite Of Having Unprotected Sex?

My wife s period started last Feb. 14-16 and ended at Feb.19-21 . We had contact last Mar. 16 with and without condom. This Mar. 21 we had another contact but the condom broke and an accident occurred. She already took her first dose (4 tabs) of Nordette this Mar. 22, 3pm and took the 2nd dose of another 4 tabs this 3am. Upon our computation, she s suppose to start her period on mar. 21. Did we miss something in the calculation? I am worried on the accident on Mar.21 but I am more worried on her delayed onset of period. After the first dose, When she checked her cervix, she noted an almost-whitish mucus discharge with blood streaks / blood tinged. 1 day post 2nd dose: she had bleeding (period-like) and a feeling of fullness inside that wants to come out . 2 days post last dose: She notice the increased intensity of her bleeding. Any insights and advices you can give doc? My wife is a nurse that works on a brachytherapy unit. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to healthcaremagic,
Some women experience bleeding after taking emergency contraception due to hormonal changes that take place. You should not worry about it as it will subside. Your wife periods were also expected around this time and it also possible that she is having her menstrual bleeding (periods) now. You have nothing to worry as of now, but if the bleeding is abnormally prolonged then you will need to visit your gynecologist for an evaluation.
Hope that answers your question,
Regards, Dr.Imaad.
