Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There Any Life Threatening Condition Having TE Fistula Repair And Is There Any Special Way To Handle The Child With This Condition?
I need to know if a child that had TE Fistula repair two years ago considered having a life threatening condition. She does not have a trach tube placed and is a normal healthy two year old. She has had a couple of dilation's, but otherwise she is healthy. The other question I have is: Are there special classes or certifications available or required for a parent or care giver that would ensure proper care of a child with a repaired TE Fistula. I can not find any information online, our ENT specialist doesn't know of any, but I want to make sure. Thank you for your time and help.
Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day
Being a Pediatric Surgeon i operate several cases of Tracheo oesophageal fistula. The only thing they require in follow up is assessment of oesophagus lumen and symptom assessment to rule out any stricture. They may sometimes have associated anamolirs which i am sure it would have been ruled out. Following definitive surgery they are like other normal kids including their growth and development. They are to be treated and brought up like any other normal kids. There is nothing to be apprehensive about.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance.
Take care
