Is There Any Problem For Sudden Dosage Change Of Metroprolol?

What are the risks going from 100 mg to 50 mg overnight of metroprolol? Just wondering if there are risks, as the pharmacy gave me the wrong prescription for over a year...now the right was is 50 mg...could it harm me to change so drastically overnight?

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
Metoprolol is a beta-blocker used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). An initial dose of 100 mg orally per day in single or divided doses may be prescribed for high BP or angina. However, doses as high as 450mg or as low as 50mg may be prescribed depending on indication.Dose adjustments can be made depending on eveolution on treatment.
Going from 100mg to 50mg may not pose any problem if your condition is well controlled with 100mg. I will suggest you see your Doctor to evaluate your response on 100mg, if very good, trying a lower dose(50mg) may be considered. However, if your conditon is not well controlled with 100mg,reduicing to 50mg will not be good.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
