I mean are there any reasons for woman to have periods other than for childbearing? and would it be healthy to stop your period with birth control pills? well i am asking this because i am 17 and have endometriosis and my doctor wants to stop my periods with birth control pill or shot
You can use hormonalcontraception such as the depo shot or continuous birth control pills to minimise the amount of periods you have. This is perfectly safe in this way, because your womb lining doesn't build up properly, so not shedding it so often doesn't pose any health risks such as cancer.
Taking continuous bc pills, for example, for 3-6 months with just a break after however many months, is actually recommended to many women, particularly those with bad PMT, heavy and/or very painful periods, endometriosis and other gynaecological issues. It can also help with moods, acne and other cyclical problems.
On the other hand, if you don't have periods and you are not causing this to happen through birth control, it is dangerous, as your lining will continue to build up and there is increased risk of cancer and other problems. Also, it can be very painful.
Women have periods to shed the unused lining after the egg has not been fertilised that month. Birth control stops you ovulating as well, so really you can control when you bleed and make it suit your lifestyle.
Hope this helps.
