Is There Any Relation Between Steroids And Thigh Pain And Should I Be Concerned About It?

Hi, my 7 year old daughter has the croup. I took her to her pediatrician who prescribed oral steroids for 3 days. Now she is complaining of thigh pain in her right leg. Is there any relation between the two? Is this something to worry about or get checked out? Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Muscle weakness and pain have been described as common side effects of some steroids especially, with high doses and when taken for long. Her symptoms may be a side effect though less probable or her pain may just be a mechanical pain. I will advise she rests well and observe. If pain persists, you see the doctor for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
