Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a family history of high cholestrol. I have had Mytral valve replacement in Nov. 2011 and was advised Rosuvas 20 which I took regularly. But I started to have unprecedented severe muscular pain and Cramps that I had to get ultra sound for eliminating the possibility of internal herniation. I was personally suspecting Rosuvas to be the cause. So when my Lipid results were in the normal range I stopped Rosuvas and over a period of time My pains stopped. Later My Physician advised me not to stop it completely but to reduce the dose and take Rosuvas 10. I have now taken it for almost three weeks and my muscular pain has started off once again and i fear it may increase. Please advise.
Hello, Statins ( ROSUVASTATIN ) are associated with myalgia in 5-7% of people consuming them.Very rarely myopathy and rhabdomylosis may occur with their use.Standard regime is to stop the drug and restart in smaller dose but if your symptoms are returning eleven with small dose, then you must stop it. You can talk to your doctor and go for EZETIMIBE which won't cause these problems.EZETIMIBE reduces cholesterol levels by interfering with the absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol. Thanks
