Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just started taking Vivanse 40mg a week ago and i had two minor sore throats the first couple of days but on the 7 & 8 day i had a horrible sore throat. It kept me awake at night and i ended up using a throat numbing spray. on the 9th day, it was a little irritated but not sore anymore. is this a side effect of the Vivanse?
Sore throat is commonly not a side effect of Vyvanse, but it does cause dry mouth, irritability & mood swings. Throat irritation can be triggered due to dry mouth.
You can inform your treating doctor so that the dose can be monitored, reduced or some other medication can be given that suits you better.
Get your throat infection physically examined by an ENT, it can either be due to allergy or pharyngitis. You may need antibiotics. Use warm saline gargle or Listerine water twice daily to gargle. In the meantime, you can take Levocetirizine, & analgesic to feel better.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
