Is Treatment Required For Cyst In The Ovaries?

my 12 yr old daughter is having her cycle in 21 days , bleeds for 7 days requiring 5 pads each day. USG done for some other reason shows endometrial thickness of 18.5 mm(that was when her period was missing for 2 months) and a hb count of 11,2 and cyst in both ovaries. does this require treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ovarian cyst occurring during adolescent period usually subside by itself. However, if the cyst is too big in size or increase in size, then treatment with birth control pills or cyst removal needs to be considered depending on clinical assessment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
