Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with a two and a half to 3 inch anal fissure 4 days ago (i have had it for almost 3 weeks now, but just diagnosed). The pain is absolutely unbearable I can't walk I can't lay down I can't sit up. it feels really swollen and I hurt any time I use the bathroom even just to go pee. is this normal or should I go back in to see the doctor the pain is absolutely to the point of I can't bear it at all
1) Yes this pain is normal in acute case of anal fissure. This pain is due to swelling in target area and due to inflammatory reaction around fissure.
2) You must avoid constipation, hard straining to reduce intensity of pain. Also you can use local anesthetic medication ointment application for pain relief and anti-inflammatory group of medication for reduction in swelling.
3) It is also normal that you might notice small quantity of bleeding on surface of stool or on toilet paper but it will stop by its own.
4) If bleeding episodes continue or it bleed in large quantity then you should consult general surgeon.
Hope I answered your query. If you have further doubts, I would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
Regards, Dr. Happykumar Kagathara
