Is Weight Loss A Side Effect Of Galvus Met And Vogas Gm2?
hi doctor i jst want to know that my mother is suffering from diabities since 20 years and now she is taking galvus met and vogas gm2 so i jst want to know does these medicines reduces weight anyone among them as she has lost some kgs within few months after started these medicines

significant weight loss (more than 10% of body weight) is not expected with any of these drugs. Loosing a couple of kilograms may be expected in some patients. If your mother has a healthy appetite and she's still loosing weight then checking her blood sugar and thyroid function should be the first investigations.
A high blood sugar (uncontrolled diabetes) will cause loss of water and glucose in the urine and will result in weight loss despite adequate appetite. Hyperthyroidism causes increased appetite AND weight loss.
If she's lost her appetite then other disorders can be considered and should be properly investigated by her doctor.
So in conclusion if she's otherwise healthy and her appetite is normal then loosing some weight can be even desirable. If she's lost a lot of weight or if she's eating too much and still loosing weight then investigation should be initiated. The drugs can be blamed only after excluding other potential causes.
