Is Withdrawing From Cymbalta Safe?

I have been on cymbalta 120mg/daily for years but am very depressed. My psychiatrist suggested I cross taper the duloxatine going to 60 mg plus adding 15 mg. mirtazapine. Nightly. I am 73, female and a recovering alcohol addict. Do you think it’s a good idea. I’m nervous about going off the Cymbalta.

Hi and Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor Service'. I have viewed your question and here is my advice.
I think the idea is a good one. Combylta can be stopped by tappering gradually .Mirtazipine is pretty effective and a safer drug and i hope that may work pretty well.
If at any time you felt you were not feeling well with tapering combylta , you can always talk to your doctor who may reassess you but mostly its fine to stop it slowly .

Hopes this help you understand your problem, please feel free to ask anything else about it.
Kind Regards
Dr Rahman
