Is Yellow Crust Around The Lips A Concern?

Hello, for the past few days I ve been waking up with a yellow crust around my lips and my lips have been sort of leaking this clear fluid and I use petroleum jelly on it but it s still wet almost. I m not sure what to do or what to put on it. Please help Erika

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having herpes labialis, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral acyclovir taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
