Its Painful To Open My Mouth After Tooth Extraction
Hi I have had a tooth extraction over a week ago. It was my lower jaw. Since then I still find it painful to open my mouth. When I do it hurts across my face down my neck and up to my ear. Do you think I still have an infection?
Hi,
Difficulty in completely opening the mouth is called trismus. this problem can occur after wisdom tooth extraction, as it is usually a surgical extraction resulting in trauma to the adjoining tissues. If you have completed the course of antibiotics and your dentist is sure that the extraction site looks clean then you just need to do warm saine gargles 3-4 times/day and may be a mild muscle relaxant coupled with a pain killer to relax the strained muscles and help in healing. The pain should reduce and then you should be able to open your mouth fully without any difficulty soon. If the problem continues i strongly advice you to re visit your dentist for a thorough check up.
Regards
hello and welcome to hcm,
if you have extracted your wisdom tooth and there was no stitches done to that area, then may be the condition is due to improper healing and also if some bad breath and some sort of pus is coming out then itcan be dry socket.
visit the dentist and get the area cleaned and irrigated and the start with the drug regimen.
do betadine gargles also.
You could have, You should visit your dentist again and he should prescribe you with some antibiotics to take care of the pain and clear up any infections.
Hi, please go for a check up again though it is normal to experience pain during mouth opening after a wisdom tooth removal. Warm saline gargles, muscle relaxant medications and mouth opening exercises may help you a lot. Take care!
this is a common problem after extraction of wisdom teeth nothing worry .....it will take 15-20 days of course of antibiotics and pain killer medicine....go to the near one dentist....and consult....
