Jelly-like Blood In 6wks Baby's Stool, Similac, Prosobee, Alimentum, Elecare, Zantac, Dark Green Stools With Dark Specks, Pear Juice And A Sopository
In the hospital, the doctors noticed red jelly-like blood in my baby s stool . He was on similac so they switched him to prosobee and he had the same issue. So we changed to Alimentum and it was the same story. Now, we are on elecare and Zantac but his poop is a dark green with black specks in it. He still pushes fairly hard sometimes and we have to give him pear juice and a sopository to help him poop. Is this normal? He is only 6 weeks old.
Your therapists have been really aggressive without proper documentation of what is going on. Do we have any stool reports, any imaging studies, ultrasound, etc. or are they sort of working off the cuff, trying new things till something works out? It may be normal for a baby of 6 weeks to pass fewer stools than what we adults consider normal, but they shouldn't be dark green or blackish at all. Hence, no, this isn't normal. You need to ask her doctor to investigate what is going wrong with her.
