Large Medication For Pain Relief, Difficult To Move Down Esophagus, Worse Pain. Why Did That Happen?
I recently swallowed a pain relief medication which was quite large. I gagged on the medicine and I had to forcefully swallow in order to make the tablet move down my oesophagus. Since this event I am having episodes of extremely intense pain whenever I swallow. This includes swallowing saliva alone or water. The pain is worst when food is swallowed producing quite an intense pain.
Difficulty in swallowing or pain during swallowing can be due structural causes like esophageal stricture, esophagitis, esophageal spasm, esophageal web, eosinophilic esophagitis or retropharyngeal abscess.
Sometimes inappropriately large tablets can cause pain during swallowing.
If you have started this complaint recently,it needs to be evaluated.
Get opinion of ENT surgeon for clinical correlation.
Hope this helps you.
Thank you.
