Hello and welcome to health care magic. Thanks for your query.
As per your description you have a single swollen
thyroid nodule on the right side ,which is painful and has pressure effect on the throat., it seems like you are having single
nodular goiter.
Goiter may cause
hypothyroidism as well as
hyperthyroidism.
- Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are-palpitations, insomnia,
weight loss, anxiety, and tremors
- Hypothyroidism symptoms might include weight gain, fatigue, depression.
Some people will cycle back and forth between hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms.
Others may have difficulty swallowing, a feeling of fullness, pain or pressure in the neck, a hoarse voice, or neck tenderness.
Considering your age, I would suggest you to see a surgeon as early as possible.
Depending on the type of nodule your doctor will be able to decide about the treatment option. (surgical or medical management)
You may need a through physical examination, few basic blood investigations (
thyroid function tests), ultrasound imaging of your gland.
If required biopsy of the thyroid gland , to see the type of growth ( follicular type/papillary/ benign/malignant)
Simple thyroid nodule ( benign) had medical management as well as surgical management.
We should be very careful in case of
malignant transformation .
Alarming symptoms like - swelling growing at faster rate, pressure symptoms like hoarseness of voice, difficulty in breathing and swallowing, weight loss. Suggestive of malignant transformation.in such case you have to see the doctor as early as possible.
Wish you all the best
