Low Back Pain, Osteoarthritis, Liver Damage. Negative For HLA B Marker. Taking Cymbalta And Tylenol. Advise?

I have tremendous low back pain and it takes me at least 1 hour of exercising to get up every morning and function. It bothers me too as I sleep and end up moving to a chair to sleep usually after 4-5 hrs in bed. I have osteoarthritis and also kyphosis in my back. I am negative for HLA B-27 marker. My hips don't seem to move any more either and in last few months I cannot even do a pelvic tilt. I am just turning 59 yrs in a few weeks and feel like my life has become very limited in the last year. Even today, I can function but I am still in pain. I have some liver damage due to having to take INH after TB exposure and find naproxen works for the pain but it affects my legs so I don't like or want to take. I take low dose Cymbalta daily and Tylenol arth when needed. Mostly use rest heat and exercise to help avoid pills. WIll this back improve at all or only regress? What should I be doing for pain? Are the hips the cause of a lot of the pain? They say I have high pain tolerance but its seems to get worse. Any avise for me?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern.
My advice is to continue the current drugs you are taking now.
Meantime you can do the exercise to strengthen your muscles. This will definitely help in reducing pain and also improves your joint function.

If you are overweight or obese, try to reduce weight either by exercise or diet modification.
You can try Heat pad application for 15 to 20 minutes for every 4 to 5 hours.
It will help in decreasing the pain.

Try to understand this. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease. As advances, degeneration will be progress rapidly.

So kindly follow physiotherapist advice and follow him regularly.
If you have acute intolerable pain, you can have intra steroidal injection to reduce inflammation and pain.
My advice is to walk around the house or to nearest shop will be really helpful in relieving your stress of being long time in bed.

Please consult your doctor about Cognitive Behavioural therapy. It teaches the way how to think, behave and respond to painful episodes.

Hope this Helps.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr.Manjeth
