Lump In Throat, Can Feel It While Swallowing, Jaw Pain After Tooth Removal. Treatment For Pain?

hi doc i have had a lump in my throat for a few years i can feel it when i swallow it is not sore i recently lost a filing an got a pain in my jaw i went to the dentist an he took the tooth out since then i have excruciating pain in my jaw even though i am taking numerous pain meds i am getting NO relief please please help i feel like banging my head off something yours painfully eileen

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query

I have gone through your query regarding feeling of lump in throat during swallowing for last few years and it is painless. Recentaly you lost a filing of a tooth so you shaw that to a dentist, dentist ultimately extracted that tooth and since than you have excruting pain in your jaw.

Since the pain of jaw is not responding to analgesic, therefore it seems that your jaw has some disease itself.To confirm it you are advice for these investigations-
(1) X-Ray - OPG
(2) M.R.I. of neck.
(3) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

Apart from this thorough examination of oral cavity and throat to rule out the actual disease , as there are these possibilities-
(1) Your tooth may had given rise to infection of gums or jaw bone, which is now became painful.
(2) there may be primary disease of jaw itself, may be infective or neoplastic.
(3) Lump of your throat may have become malignant and infilterated the jaw bones.

By a good clinical examination and co-relation with inferences of investigations one can reach to a correct diagnosis which may be accordingly plan for treatment.
