Lump On Back, Hard Without Movement, Recurring. Swollen Lymph Node?

My boyfriend has had a lump/mass on the back, right side of his neck, along his hairline. The lump is hard, does not hurt and does not move. This frightens me being that the lump will be there for several weeks then the next it's gone, so on and so forth in this pattern. Is it just a swollen lymph nodes or is it serious? I would like to know as quickly as possible so if it is serious I can get him in to see the doctor.

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
This could be nonspecific kind of history, if I consider it as lipoma ( The fat disposition ) then it may not disappear or if it disappeared then the occurrence if it on same place is unusual, when it does not hurts, then just wait for few more weeks I think it will disappear and will not appear again if it does then further investigation has to be done, hope this answer would help you have nice day.
