Morbidly Obese, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Stomach Virus, Bloated. Treatment?
I am 65 years old, morbidly obese and have type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Since last Sunday I have had some kind of stomach virus which means any fodd or drink pass straight through me. So far I have lost 10lbs in weight and feel bloated all the time. I have tried a course of Imodium but this has only helped slightly. What is the best treatment I can do to help myself?.
Hello, You are right that it looks like stomach virus. Normal viral diarrhoea lasts for 5-7 days and then it become s all right. Trratment in such cases is proper rehydration only. You must take plenty of fluids orally to prevent dehydration. If diarrhoea gets prolonged, then there can be other reasons like bacterial infection or protozoan infection. In such cases, one is advised to get his/her stool examined microscopically and cultured and then medicine is given accordingly. If it is more than a week since your diarrhoea, then you may consult your doctor. Thanks
