My Doctor Prescribed Emeset-4 For Nausea And Vomiting During Pregnancy. Is There Any Side Effects?

Hi, I am 20 weeks pregnant and still having nausea and vomitting feeling. Doctor has perscribed me Emeset-4 twice a day.But I am taking it only in the morning it is effective. But i want to know if it has any side effects and should be taken or not as i read on the web that its advisable for vomitting due to cancer treatment and should not be taken while pregnanct. I am worried. Please advice

Hi and welcome to HCM.

Nausea and vomiting is a common phenomenon in pregnancy, specially during the first trimester.
Emeset contains ondansetron a drug which is used to Prevention of post-op nausea and vomiting, Nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy,Prophylaxis of post-op nausea and vomiting.
FDA has categorized this drug as category B, means either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester

It can be given but under caution and medical supervision, some gynecologists wont give these tabs, instead they advice if absolutely necessary Tab Doxinate tablets at bedtime. Doxinate is used to treat Pregnancy-associated nausea and vomiting.
Speak with your doctor once and follow his/her advice. If she/he is confident about emeset then no problem.
