My Doctor Was Looking At An Xray Of Mine, Should I Be Worried ?
I am 32 and my doctor was looking at an xray of mine and said oh thats interesting . should i be worried ? She told me that i had little white specks of inflamation in my lungs. she is only in her second year of residency and she couldnt tell me more excet that it kind of looks like COPD . I am a little spooked right now! what does COPD look like in an Xray?
In chest xray COPD has FOLLOWING FEATURES-1-HYPERINFLATED,2-DEPRESSED DOMES OF DIAPHRAGM,3-TUBULAR HEART ,4-INCREASED INTERCOSTAL SPACES,5-PERIPHERAL PRUNING OF VESSELS.THE ABOVE FEATURES are seen classically in COPD.For the past how many years do you smoke?how many cigarettes per day u smoke?y did u have X-ray?y did u visit the doctor?what are your complaints?Better you do have A PFT.HERE little white specks of inflammation in lungs is suggestive of pneumonia .interpretation of your chest X-ray is inappropriate.better you consult a chest physician.
Hi James,
Thanks for visiting HCM.
Let me assure you that you don't have COPD. COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a disease of elderly chronic smokers, mostly male. There is only one condition called alpha- 1 anti-trypsin deficiency where COPD can happen before age of 45 years and that too is very rare. For the rest it usually occurs in sixties.
The x-ray findings in COPD will be an enlarged lung fields so that you can count >6 anterior ribs and >10 posterior ribs, heart shadow will be tubular, peripheral pruning of vessels in outer third of x-ray, widened intercostal spaces etc.
Little white specks is not a sign of COPD. It may be pneumonia, collapse, localised effusion, fibrosis etc.
Don't be panic, I am 99.99% sure that you are not suffering from COPD. Meet a pulmonologist to get an accurate diagnosis.
